Sovereignty through cooperation and standardization

The example of the Swiss Administrative Data Space

Digital sovereignty is not achieved through isolation, but through collaboration on equal terms. Switzerland needs digital ecosystems that foster cooperation rather than hinder it. Open interfaces and common standards are key: they ensure the interchangeability of components and prevent vendor lock-in.

Projects such as Gaia-X, European Data Spaces, or national initiatives like the Gaia-X Switzerland Hub –and in particular the federal government’s strategy for a “Swiss Data Ecosystem” – demonstrate that interoperability is not merely a technical issue but a strategic one – even across national borders.

The “Swiss Administrative Data Space” presented here combines the concept of data spaces with the GEVER sub-strategy pursued by the federal government. This innovative and highly generic approach enables trustworthy, self-determined, and secure data exchange across organizational boundaries and clearly demonstrates how modern concepts enable new business models.

Swiss Administrative Data Space

adesso’s vision combines the GEVER sub-strategy with the concept of data spaces and offers a common model for stakeholders at all three federal levels.
