The German Digital Healthcare Act (DVG) has formed the basis for improved healthcare in Germany through digitalisation and innovation since its introduction at the end of 2019. Under the DVG and the Digital Health Applications Ordinance (DiGAV), doctors are now able to prescribe digital healthcare applications (DiGAs) to patients, provided the apps are approved as medical devices. Prescriptions of this nature are covered by German health insurers. Against this backdrop, the IT service provider adesso has set up a new joint venture in partnership with the medical devices manufacturer medi.

medi and adesso set up HEALAY joint venture
New milestone in digital health applications: adesso and the Bayreuth-based medical devices manufacturer medi have founded a new joint venture called HEALAY. Based in Frankfurt, the new joint venture will focus on developing and marketing innovative digital health applications in the medical devices market.
Christoph Schmitz of medi will lead the new start-up in collaboration with adesso’s Thomas Starke. “Our joint venture HEALAY paves the way for high-performance innovations in the digitalisation of the healthcare industry,” said Christoph Schmitz on the formation of the new company. “With our outstanding access to technology expertise and development capacity, we aim to bring digital healthcare applications to market. In this way, HEALAY supports medi and other partners in getting closer to important target groups and substantially expanding their own value proposition.”

Treatment of the future: prescription apps
HEALAY will work closely with adesso and medi to expand its development of apps and digital services moving forward. adesso already develops DiGAs, mostly for start-ups, and is set to continue on this pathway in cooperation with HEALAY.
