Unleash the power of AI: SAP data as a game changer
AI is the real game changer of our time. Advances in generative AI and Machine Learning enable intelligent applications such as Conversational Assistants or Predictive Analytics. However, many companies are struggling to find use cases for AI with real financial added value and have not yet progressed beyond the experimental stage. In the SAP environment, SAP Business AI opens up enormous potential for intelligent process and business optimization. It can even enable you to implement completely new business processes. We’ll show you how it's done.
AI-supported duplicate checking and payment optimization with SAP BTP
We have already successfully activated AI solutions in the SAP environment for several businesses. One outstanding use case, for example, was the identification of duplicate invoices and the avoidance of double payments by using AI in SAP.
Often, the usual SAP check parameters are not sufficient for identifying duplicate invoices, the OCR is too inaccurate or different company codes and cross-system documents are not identified at all. In addition, minor deviations in the documents can often be overlooked, such as similar names of sister companies or deviations in delivery periods.
Our approach includes the design and realization of a payment dashboard with duplicate checks on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). The extraction of invoice documents and their transformation into the dashboard enables the processing of contextual information via the SAP GenAI Hub. Invoices are translated and interpreted using the SAP AI service “Retrieval Augmentation Generation” (RAG) in combination with LLMs such as ChatGPT. The extracted data is then stored in the S/4HANA cloud database via the SAP Vector Engine, thus allowing a wide range of checks and further processing. In addition, relevant parameters were set in the business process, such as payment blocks for duplicates, and a correct display in reporting was enabled.
Automated duplicate recognition and payment optimization
The fast and intuitive environment for monitoring potential duplicates significantly improved their detection, especially for cross-company code and cross-system invoices. With automation and integration in BTP, we were able to build a payment dashboard with an integrated view of all companies within the group. Combining BTP AI with BTP Automation enables short implementation cycles and ensures extensions according to the clean core approach. Our customers also benefit from significant monetary savings.
Which SAP technology do we use?
SAP's Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) provides the central infrastructure for integrating AI into existing SAP systems. Think of BTP as a kind of AI construction kit that we can use to create customized solutions tailored to your exact needs.
Core components of SAP BTP for AI:
- SAP AI Core & AI Foundation: These services are at the heart of AI development. Here we develop, train and operate our own AI models that are tailored to your specific data.
- SAP Agentic AI: We implement intelligent conversational chatbots and virtual assistants that understand natural language and automatically process requests. The chatbot uses your business data from the SAP system and thus delivers real business value for the end user.
- SAP Predictive Analytics: With this solution, we can make accurate predictions based on historical data, such as customer trends or demand analysis. This enables proactive control of your business processes.
- SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine: This enables the vectorization of SAP data to use it for GenAI use cases. The table-like SAP data is converted into vectors and can then be used in GenAI tools such as ChatGPT.
- In addition, we use cross-technology synergies so that you can access business data in SAP from Microsoft Copilot or Microsoft Teams, for example.
How do we do it?

These are, on the one hand, Embedded AI use cases in the SAP applications, but also customer-specific developments on the SAP Business Technology Platform with a connection to foundational models such as ChatGPT or others. Proof of Concept (PoC): We then develop prototypes to explore the feasibility and benefits of the AI solutions in the system. Together, we evaluate the benefits of generative AI in relation to your SAP data and your existing SAP architecture.

Activating AI: We integrate the AI solutions into your existing systems and processes. In doing so, we help you to incorporate the AI-based business process into your current SAP landscape so that it generates optimal solutions in combination with your business data. We link your data model and your SAP applications with the AI use case.

Scaling up: With the know-how gained, you can now roll out the AI solutions to other areas of your company as desired.
