Zivi Connect

New application for the Federal Office for Civilian Service (ZIVI): ZiviConnect

ZiviConnect

From Legacy Systems to Agility: ZiViConnect Goes Live

ZiviConnect connects host organizations, civilian service participants, partners, and the Federal Office for Civil Service (ZIVI). With ZiviConnect, adesso is replacing the Federal Office for Civil Service’s outdated E-ZIVI system. The new application was developed from the ground up using agile methodologies and a modern microservices architecture, including migration, integration, quality assurance, and long-term operations and support, in close collaboration with ISCeco and the client. With a strategic framework agreement designed to last up to twelve years, the project lays the foundation for continuous development.

Challenge

Prior to this project, the E-ZIVI IT system—developed specifically for this purpose—was used to handle most of the ZIVI’s administrative tasks. The main objective of the new ZiviConnect project was to replace the existing E-ZIVI system with a new system built using agile methodologies. The biggest challenges were:

  • Timely replacement of an outdated, complex system that was integrated into existing operational structures
  • Digitization of numerous manual processes
  • Seamless migration and integration for approximately 30,000 users

Benefits for the Client

The launch of ZiviConnect was a major milestone in ZIVI’s digitalization strategy. The key benefits are:

  • The future-proof system supports new requirements over the long term
  • Increased efficiency through the automation and digitization of many manual processes
  • Cost savings in addition to efficiency gains
  • Improved user experience for all 30,000 users, especially on mobile devices

Solution

An overview of the solution provided by adesso:

  • A modern, agile system based on a microservices architecture using the latest Java and JavaScript technologies
  • End-to-end responsibility for the system, including migration and operations: In addition to detailed solution design, implementation, and integration, the services also included maintenance and support for ongoing development.
  • Efficient collaboration: The Swiss adesso team worked directly on-site at the client’s location in Thun and was supported by an adesso nearshore team in Bulgaria.
